Awesome Dinosaurs
A prehistoric party!
Here is an overview of our ‘Dinosaur Discovery’ session. This explains everything you can expect when booking this experience.
This is a fun session mixing crafts, activities, learning and puppetry.
Session overview
Settings where this can be done:
The ideal places for this session would be children’s parties, nurseries, schools, community events and after school clubs. It can be done with more of an educational angle, or more fun play with a bit of learning included.
This session may be quite restrictive and cramped if you would like it done in your own home. As to not make a mess, I will also limit what activities we bring.
At its core:
Activities include a range of- matching dinosaur bones to their skeletons, hatching dino eggs, decorate a dino standee, dress up, fossil dig and colouring mat. Our life-size Deinonychus Dizzy will make an appearance. Educational bits include- learning the names of dinos, dino diets, dino themed words (eg: Jurassic, Palaeontologist), identifying different groups of dinos, and more.
I used to do talks and tours at a prehistoric exhibit, so I’m very used to designing activities for different age groups.
Two of us will attend this session on the day.
All artwork present in the activities and crafts is made by ourselves. This includes our puppets and dino dress up helmets, which is all hand-made by myself.
Before we start:
We need about 30 minutes to set up this session. We will set up some crafts on tables, if you have them available. If there are no tables available, let us know and we will bring some blankets to set up on the floor instead.
We will have quite a lot to unpack, so the closer we are able to park to your chosen premises, the quicker we can set up.
Structure of the session:
Party structure:
There will be at least three passive activities happening in the room, so that if young people would like to do some crafts, they can at any time. These activities are available throughout the session.
We will lead the group in a main activity, then suite up with the puppet. The puppet will be brought around to everyone, as if he were a real animal (because he is real, don’t ruin the illusion!) and everyone will get an opportunity to say hello and have their photo taken.
We will then put out a few more activities and move around the room making sure that everyone is having fun and experiencing everything there is to offer.
Class structure:
This structure involves more of the learning, and less of the crafts. It is also more suited to classroom. We will use the same activities one at a time and lead the class through all together, so everyone is learning together. This will be tailored to age group.
Our Deinonychus will make an appearance about half way in, and he will go around and meet everyone. If we have time near the end, we can do some crafts together.
What we ask of you:
Tables are preferred, though if there are none available please let us know and we can bring mats and blankets instead.
We also need a space which accommodates us and the size of the group. We prefer indoors, but outdoors is fine too, weather and temperature depending (our puppet doesn’t like the rain). If this is to take place during hot weather, we ask that there is some ventilation available, as our puppet requires wearing additional layers.
If the room noise level is too high while we are carrying out the main activities, then information may be missed. While we will always try to keep these segments focused, crowd control is not at the core of our responsibilities, and we would expect those leading the group to bear some responsibility in this.
To suit up with the puppet, we will need to step out of the room for a moment, to put him on. This can be just a hallway or whatever space is available, though ideally this is not witnessed by the children, to avoid breaking the illusion.
Add ons:
At no extra cost, we can bring some animals along. We have some reptiles and birds, if you’d like some examples of modern-day dinosaurs. You are welcome to request certain types of animals, however this is limited to what we have available and able to travel that day.
What happens when you book?
When you reach out to us, we will collect the details we need to know about your event.
We will email you- A copy of the session overview (the information above), Terms of service, Safety sheet and Invoice.
